Moving from Seattle to Brooklyn was a quick, life-changing decision. Since then, my journey has been filled with professional achievements, personal growth, and unforgettable experiences. My stepfather’s serious stroke a few years ago, along with other health issues, has made him fragile, and my mother has been his rock. This brought me back home.

Brooklyn is wonderful, and New York City is magical. Yet, my mind and body needed a break. I faced significant challenges in New York, including assaults that changed my relationship with the city. Hyper-awareness became my norm, especially after narrowly avoiding a subway shooting. The rent for my tiny studio was exorbitant, and I lived with minimal space and comfort.

Coming home is bittersweet. Four years abroad brought incredible friendships and immense career growth, leaving a lasting impact. But when priorities shift, some things are non-negotiable. As a third culture kid, home is fluid. This feels like moving from one cherished place to another.

My new home is sunny, safe, gentle on the soul, and clean. It’s a stark contrast to New York’s hustle and bustle. I will miss the vibrant art scene and dynamic energy of New York, but this new chapter offers other exciting opportunities.

Starting anew in a place where people know a different version of me is both exhilarating and daunting.

Managing work and adapting to a new schedule can be overwhelming. However, this transition is a chance to reinvent myself and explore new professional avenues.

Though filled with uncertainties, this new chapter brims with potential.
